In Celebration of a new camera

Big cookout at our place last weekend as MF and Rocky were in town. Dinner for 6 featured a couple of new dishes and an old favourite.

It was also the perfect opportunity to try out our 1-week old D70s (yay!), although all the photos here (except for the tiramisu) were taken by LH and his D200, with our 60mm macro lens.

For starters we made grilled portobello with mascarpone and stilton, topped with basil and rocket. It was also my first Gordon Ramsay recipe.

Next was scallops with polenta, topped with shitake and rocket, drizzled with truffle oil. We had a hard time looking for good scallops and ended up getting hotate from Parkway.

The main was an old favourite, roasted ribs with soya beans and sesame seeds. I’ve made it a couple of times before - recipe here - but it’s never looked so good on photo before!

Karen’s dessert was outstanding as usual, a slight twist from her yummy tiramisu - without cream cheese and with gula melaka topping.

Is it the camera, lens or photgrapher? The photos are excellent!
Thanks guys for the wonderful dinner.

Amy - it depends of who you ask. If you ask me it’s the lens of cos. If you ask LH, he’ll probably say good photographer! (although I did take the tiramisu shot)

The photographer should seriously think about getting in food photography! Yumm!

I chanced upon your site when I searched for mascarpone. I needed a recipe to whip up some mascarpone-dishes for my special day with my special one. I am pressing for the recipe as the day is coming!!! *need to practise somemore, as I hardly step into the kitchen to cook!*

I love the pic of the starter!

Would it be alright for u to email me the recipe for the starter?

I could not find it in your recipe links or other related websites.

Thanks alot!

hi KK, the recipe’s simple. Portobello mushrooms (you can get them in packs of 4 or 5), mascarpone and blue stilton mixed together (about 80% mascarpone and 20% stilton, depending on your love / tolerance for blue cheese). Just crumble the stilton over the mascarpone and mix well. Spoon on the portobellos and pop into the oven for about 10 minutes or until slightly burnt. Just top with rocket and basil and serve. Couldnt be easier!
