One night, I dreamt that Ren was eaten up by another dog. Swallowed whole by a Scotchy-type dog, a Golden Retriever. I was holding Ren and these two Golden Retrievers were trying to get at her. I kept asking someone to take her from me but he wouldn’t listen. When I turned to ask again, one of the dogs leapt up and ate Ren in one bite, swallowed her whole.

It was a very vivid dream. I remember the sinking feeling and wondering if, by some fluke, Ren would still be able to breathe inside the dog. Would she still be alive when we cut the dog open?

The dream is about guilt.
What have you done?

A lot of things.
Not that I feel guilty for any of it.

It’s one in a series of dreams about death. There’s another one in which I killed a woman by throwing her down a few storeys and had to be on the run. I had to go back for my passport and was overcome by a terrific sense of freedom. But the police was closing in on me.

It all started cos the woman’s daughter fed Ren a whole plate of fried rice and gave her a tummy ache.

I can turn this into a movie in which the characters just sit around and talk about their dreams.

Last week, I dreamt I had a baby. The dream wasn’t about being pregnant or anything. We just had a baby which was already a few days old. Bizarrely, I had to tell Jimmy about it (a few days after it was born.) And the first thing that he said was, “Huh? Cute or not?”

I wasn’t sure — looks like we’re very nonchalent parents— so I had to go to the baby room to “double-check”. Then I came back and told him, “Yah, very cute. Very pretty.” Looks like it was a girl.

It must be all the casting that we’ve been doing for this shoot that’s coming up.

The funny thing was, when I told him about the dream, his first question was also, “Cute or not?”

Shallow people we are.
