Wild Rocket
We took all this time to get to the Wild Rocket because of all the hype. And being the cynics that we were, automatically assumed that the food won’t live up to the hype. But today work brought us down to hangout and we thought we’d try our luck at the “must make reservations” restaurant.
D, who eats there often enough, recommended almost everything on the menu. I took her first recommendation and ordered the Crusted Chilean Seabass with Baby Kale Leaves ($28). It was flawless — perfectly cooked with a tasty crust of sundried tomatoes and breadcrumbs, although I would prefer a more adult portion of the baby kale.
Jimmy had the Linguini Aglio Olio with Tiger Prawns ($16.80). It was chilli-padi spicy, but saved but the fact that the prawns were completely shelled. Yup, not even a silly bit of shell on the tail! The Deep Fried Baby Potatoes with Aioli and Fleur de Sel ($4.50) was saved by the fact that it was very small and was gone before it made an impression.
For dessert, we had the Strawberry Cheesecake with Maple Walnut Ice-cream ($8.50). It reminded me of something I used to make before I started using the oven! That’s a compliment in case you’re wondering. The cake was very basic but it got on famously with the stewed strawberries and the maple walnut ice-cream.
I enjoyed it so much that Jimmy was reduced to reviewing the coffee which he declared to be Japanese “cos it has the bitterness of a Japanese coffee and it’s not creamy enough to be Italian.”
Forgot to mention that the day before that we had dinner at Kuriya, Shaw House. The sushi was very fresh and I liked the chicken claypot rice as well.
