Meeting People is Easy

Last evening, something quite amazing happened. At the invitation of Kinetic, several interactive agencies came together and hit it off. Sean and Carolyn from Kinetic organised it; we were there, and so were O&M, Formula8, Osmosis, Blue, XM, and the very nice ECD from McCann. Paprika, Spoon and Upperstorey were invited but unfortunately couldnt make it.

The interactive CCAs were discussed (Kinetic are chairing this year), but it was more the beers, wine, cigs and shop talk afterwards that was great. Sean and Carolyn turned out to be great folks, still humble after all the gold pencils.

More importantly, we all agreed that we should do it more often, with more people from other agencies. The idea was also mooted for a design portal for the interactive industry here.

Anyone reading this interested?

I think the portal can take the form of a blog. Cos that’s quick to set up. Just set up the categories, hand out accounts to whoever wants them and off we go. Rather than waiting a long time for the portal and losing steam along the way.

It would be nice to finally have some kind of community.

I guess assassination wasn’t on the agenda.

Posted by: Randy at June 4, 2005 05:55 PM

No, but I wore my killer pointy toes just in case things got rough.

Posted by: Karen at June 4, 2005 06:00 PM

It was. The only agency left is called Kinetimanic.

Posted by: jimmy at June 4, 2005 06:53 PM

Err… jimmy ah… it’s formul8 lah, (no formula and no car racing.)

don’t gener8 names that devi8 or oscill8 away from the original (sorry, couldn’t help myself… heh).

Posted by: jaffry at June 5, 2005 02:06 AM

Can count me in?

Posted by: Xavier at June 6, 2005 02:53 AM

that would be absolute hotness.

was O&M pei there?

Posted by: jbarks at June 7, 2005 12:06 AM

can everyone introduce themselves when posting? at least tell us what company you’re from.

Posted by: jimmy at June 7, 2005 12:39 AM

Um, jbarks is josh, friend of randy and ernest, and the guy who’s been helping identify some of the mag type.

Posted by: Karen at June 7, 2005 12:47 AM

haha karen, do you remember meeting shaun/shawn from ogilvyone?

Posted by: Ernest at June 7, 2005 02:25 AM

Met him for the first time that night. He’s one funny guy! Very pro-Apple. He said he was arrowed to attend, but he stayed on almost as late as us. I think everyone was just surprised that we all hit off.

O&M Pei? Is she the girl who just joined kinetic from O&M? Shaun was the only one from O&M, but he was talking to this girl, who was from O&M and had just started work at kinetic.

Posted by: Karen at June 7, 2005 09:45 AM

we met shawn at HOME after that and he was pissed drunk. he said he just met you and was trying to look for your namecard in his drunken state.

Posted by: Ernest at June 7, 2005 01:16 PM

nope, pei’s been there all her life and she doesn’t seem to want to move anywhere else. but she’s the regional CD and i don’t know if she touches the interactive stuff or not.

Posted by: jbarks at June 7, 2005 01:20 PM

Haha. I didn’t want to embarrass him by saying how drunk he was.

By HOME you mean, a real home or some cool place? No wonder he kinda rushed off.

Josh, do you have any kind of anti-spam installed on your blog now?

Posted by: Karen at June 7, 2005 11:01 PM

HOME

Posted by: Ernest at June 8, 2005 10:20 AM

Nope, but that’s mainly because it’s not a public one. There’s always the MT-Scode and MT-Keystrokes plugins if you’re looking to do some automated spam filtering though.

Posted by: jbarks at June 8, 2005 10:47 AM

or you could go anal-banal and use TypeKey, but hardly anyone I know has an account there, so YMMV.

Posted by: jbarks at June 8, 2005 10:48 AM

it’s been a long time since i’ve been here. Hello Karen!

Posted by: morris at June 8, 2005 01:22 PM

Dudes! Huge apology for my (less-than-socially-acceptable) drunk state that evening. I really don’t remember the large portions of what I did at HOME… getting myself there was quite a miracle!
I definitely enjoyed meeting you fellas at Kinetic. And for those who couldn’t show up… I shudder at what you’ve missed out on. When boring, no life, finger tapping interactive boys and girls come together in smokey alleys, IDEAS come alive.
Till the next one… perhaps a private showcase of works/technology with 3 tons of booze. :)
Thanks Carol & Sean for ya hospitality.

Hey… The design portal for the creative kind here, has been on my mind since like last year. Also presented my ideas to the DesignSingapore Council. Well, they dint get back to me. So, that means - ‘No’. And I dont think I have the funds to do it by myself and Im only schooling rite now. But Im happy with my design newsfeed - I get quita a lot of people reading my feeds, so it’s cool. If you guys goin ahead with the portal thing - I’d love to be a part of it.

Xavier - sure thing, we’ll post any updates here.

Ernest - didnt know you club!!

Shawn - you mean you were drunk? So all that talk about having BOTH FH and AI on the same machine is just … beer talk!!?? :)

Posted by: jimmy at June 8, 2005 09:44 PM

Jimmy - very rarely heh. wanted to see what it was all about.

Posted by: Ernest at June 8, 2005 10:39 PM

Hey morris is back. You guys should all check out his site. Great illustrations.

Posted by: Karen at June 8, 2005 11:05 PM

wow! killer illustrations!

Posted by: Ernest at June 8, 2005 11:23 PM

Erm - That part was true: AI and FH in one and every machine. This part is false: heard from you someone’s leaving in my company. Haha. Very “gabra”, me!

:)

Guys, kinetic has a blog! and Sean and the rest of us (who were at that meeting) are also thinking of setting up another blog for the interactive community.

Anyone’s got good domain names to suggest?

That’s what we’re supposed to be talking about at HOME anyway. Any excuse we can find to drink!

Posted by: Karen at July 14, 2005 10:20 PM

So do our Neighbor(s)!

Posted by: Randy at July 17, 2005 02:39 PM

Spoon has a blog up as well.

Posted by: Ernest at July 26, 2005 08:12 PM

Hello hello,

Apologies on behalf of the upperstorey that we did not manage to attend the talking seassion hosted by the Kenetic. Please do keep us in the loop for the next upcoming events and I guess we will keep our hands off the keyboard and on the beer glass this time round.

Cheers

The blog we’ve been talking about for the last 3 months is finally up - www.underscoreroot.com.sg. Big thanks to Sean and the Kinetics for getting it going.

We welcome all designers to share your thoughts on the interactive scene in Singapore!
