Starry Warry Night

Lots of time before the Star Wars preview (tickets a surprise from Randy and Ernest). So I thought I’d grab the chance to snap a pix of this glowing new typo-site, the Singapore Visitors Centre in Orchard Road.
Posted by Karen at May 17, 2005 12:50 AM in typographyAll the time i saw it in the daylight, i had asked myself why they made it so white.. now i know…It looks so nice at night…
Posted by: Jaschocolate at May 17, 2005 12:02 PMPink, I believe the lights were.
Changed it, they must have.
Nicer, it was.

Posted by: keefe at May 17, 2005 03:52 PMYes, I remember someone saying something about the colours. That’s why I was half expecting the colours to change as I was taking the photo.
Just love these oversized letters, with tiny people in the shot for scale.
Posted by: Karen at May 17, 2005 08:52 PMYou have been tomorrow-ed
Link
so can anybody identify the font used?
Posted by: Ernest at May 17, 2005 11:27 PMAnd while you’re at it, the Singapore too? PLEASE :)
Ern and I have been wondering every single time we walk pass it :\

Posted by: myoclonic jerk at May 18, 2005 12:11 AMUniquely Singapore’s most definitely a bit of custom lettering. We haven’t seen the rest of the letters, have we? But they used Nick Shinn’s Shinn Medium for the sans.
Jesus fxxking Christ! The Singapore Visitor Centre font is Shinn Medium!!!!! All the angled terminals are there! Almost nothing’s tweaked!
Now, I’m happy. Oh yay oh yay!
I should’ve made the connection. STB >> Singapore Visitor Centre
Posted by: Karen at May 18, 2005 12:18 AMAnd I’m happy to see that my blog’s keeping everyone up!
Posted by: Karen at May 18, 2005 12:22 AMHaha, I must have missed that thread. Shame on me. Yes, the night is still young, just like us. Hehe.
Posted by: Randy at May 18, 2005 12:39 AMLancerlord: I’ve noticed. :)
Posted by: Karen at May 18, 2005 01:16 AMCame across this blog by chance last week and think it’s just SUPERB. (I’m only an armchair fan of typography; main interest is calligraphy and handwriting.)
Has anyone commented on the masthead of The Straits Times? When the pilot was published, I wrote to the deputy editor criticizing the dreadful spacing of the Trajan caps; he replied saying it was being tweaked, but the ‘improved’ version remains an object lesson in how NOT to space caps!
Posted by: italicist at May 18, 2005 04:39 PMYes, we’ve commented on it before. And you’re right about the kerning.
Posted by: Karen at May 18, 2005 05:25 PMHi,
I’m thinking of looking for a good design agency to work with.
Does anyone knows of any companies name or website?
Thanks and appreciate some help.
Randy “The Sagmeister” and Ernest “DJ Stout”, our interns, are award-winning designers who may be able to work with you on a freelance basis. If you’d like to talk to them, let me know.
Posted by: jimmy at May 19, 2005 05:37 PMWe’ve got a list of local design firms somewhere. And feel free to add to it.

project for the next bunch of interns to do, instead of running around holland v? (oooo)
Posted by: jbarks at May 23, 2005 10:34 PMCool. But I wonder if it’s too American-centric, cos I only got a few right. :-P
Next bunch of interns better be able to do cartwheels.
Too many signs, too little time.
