Play Boys!

pin up girls

Something to go with the weather.

My favourite ones are by Jack Cole, who was Playboy’s first star cartoonist, in the 1950’s. No, no, there’s no excuse to get hold of those vintage playboy issues, his hardcover book is here. (Someone please ID the cover type!) And so is Bill Ward’s. I really like this secretary by Don DeCarlo, the Archie comic book artist who “defined Betty and Veronica’s look”.

If I was more diligent, I would’ve mentioned William Travilla some weeks ago, after seeing his book at Page One. He was the genius who dressed Monroe in eight of her movies. He really deserves his own entry.

errr… you meant Monroe, right?

anyway, you just gave a very good reason (not an excuse) to get those vintage playboy magazines. a hardcover collection will not have the right context, atmosphere or ambience to thoroughly enjoy the full beauty of the illustrations.

(now, there’s a fairly developed excuse for anyone who wants to use it.)

errr, yes I did. Ooops.

Right, you need context to appreciate these hot chicks.

But seriously, I think the whole series of books (when they are all out) will be quite a collection.

Btw, type god Stewf has identified the Jack Cole cover as Poppl Exquisite Medium.

I suck at identifying fonts. It’s a good thing other people do it so well, otherwise I’d never be able to sleep at night.

Btw, check typophile’s got a spiffy new look. It looks really good but it’s very sluggish.

Despite the heat, here are 5 reasons why May is/will be a good month:

1. Chelski wont win the Champions League
2. Lots of biscotti to eat
3. Finally watched Donnie Darko
4. Karen just bought Nigella Lawson’s How To Be A Domestic Goddess. Yum.
5. May 21: Man U 2 Arsenal 0

Biscotti is finished, thanks to your interns.

And the last time you predicted Liverpool will lose they didn’t. And neither did PSV.

So lets hope we’re not 3 times lucky. It’ll be a nice way to end the internship.

Oh, and Karen doesn’t wanna let us/me put soccer links in our/my author bios :(

be careful, i’m the only one who can post anything football-related on this blog. HA HA HA!

I’m terrified of you guys turning this into a soccer blog! As it is, I’m already getting more soccer than I’ve bargained for. :)

Come on Karen, now that you’ve got MUTV on SCV, where’s the harm in starting a “Soccer” category :)

A confession: I’m a recovering soccer phobe.
