Designer and Irrelevant

Check out my first post over at DesignGrid.

Cha’s spotted some cool gear such as these wearable time tags, which I will HAVE to get because I can’t read an analog clock.

design*sponge is another cool and girly blog that I’ve been enjoying. Just love the stuff she finds!

Mighty Goods by Mighty Girl is nice too.

And then there are the irrelevant links such as this and this. You see, I was trying to get organised and looking for bottles for my wedding favours.

God that pink acrylic chair by Alistair Chang is an absolute dream. And sweet wedding invite. That doggie isn’t Ren, is it?

Posted by: mifon at March 23, 2005 07:58 AM

Yes it’s Ren. I drew it myself on a Wacom tablet!

Does anyone know whether the HOW conference in Chicago in June is worth going for? We’re thinking of attending - Karen for the House Industries seminars and me for the studio tours - but we’re not sure if it’s worth the dosh (or the 20 hour flight for that matter).

Has anyone been to a HOW conference? Is Chicago worth a visit??

Posted by: jimmy at April 4, 2005 11:30 PM

Jimmy, maybe try asking on SpeakUp - there’s a lot of HOW-heads there. As for Chicago, I’ve heard great things about it, but haven’t been myself. BTW, if you go for it, would you be stopping by LA? :-)

Posted by: Hrant at April 5, 2005 01:07 AM

That actually sounds like a plan. Frisco, LA, then Chicago. Hmm …

Posted by: jimmy at April 5, 2005 11:27 PM

If you have the time (and can avoid large airfare surchages for a non-continuous itinerary) you might want to drive down from SF to LA along the coast - it’s a very nice experience; but if you do, give it 2-3 days.

BTW, make sure not to use the term “Frisco” with SF people - they hate it! :-)

One last thing, I forgot to mention: Armit Vit used to live in Chicago, so you might ask him for pointers.

Thanks for the tips. I guess it’s like going to Tokyo and calling them “Japs”.

Several cool things going on at HOW besides the fact that Chicago is the best eating town in the country. Not the finest of the fine but universally good food everywhere. God bless the midwest. I am going to see Jeff Kleinsmith among others. I wanted to see Sagmeister but he is speaking at the same time as I am. So if you can not get into Stefan’s session come on down to mine.

Nawlins baby.

i have got used design books to clear, they range from graphics design, illustration to motion grpahics, i am not sure if i can post it here.
in any case, if it is inappropriate to post here, do advise where i can post.
as these are very specialised books, the general categories hasn’t help much.

Talking about designer blogs… this designer I think is from Asylum and her ‘Engrish’ is embarrassing!

dear edmund

quote: “this designer I think is from Asylum and her ‘Engrish’ is embarrassing”!

if you realised, your grammer is wrong :)

Posted by: kalverty at June 25, 2006 10:27 PM

hey, i was probably drunk when i was blogging.

Posted by: "this designer Edmund thinks is from Asylum" at June 25, 2006 11:01 PM

Ah, public slamming going on. Its been a while. Well, look if you’re running a blog then mind that English. I’m not kissing air here but I think people like Randy, Jim and the rest here write decent stuff with all the proper grammer. “This particular designer who conceived this blog must be from design firm Asylum and her ‘Engrish’ is embarrassing”! Better, ciao!

Posted by: Edmund at June 28, 2006 06:28 PM

well dear, at least be gracious enough to correct that person in his/her own blog. Or i suppose you dun have that lil bit in you? btw, care to tell us which design company you’re in?

to the person who own this blog: sorry for the commotion, just clearing up the sour foul air. last entry anyway :)

Posted by: kalverty at June 28, 2006 11:34 PM

Kal, looks like you have the hots for the lady… You don’t write well yourself. And its not a last entry; no need to be PC about it. And you don’t even know who owns this blog? Its by Manic.

Posted by: Edmund at June 29, 2006 10:37 AM

Listen up Edmund. Me and Kal are friends of your poor victim here. As good friends, we will naturally be protective when someone close to us gets hurt, in this case by you. Judging from your email address (allrightsdesigned?? Come on..), I think that you are a naive diploma student who wanted to intern at Asylum but wasn’t shortlisted so you are pissed. You end up working at a printing firm doing FAs. Your parents don’t love you and you have no friends because you only hang out with people who know how to recites the alphabets backwards. So what if our English is “Engrish”? It’s wrong to humiliate people in public post. It’s hurtful. Think about it.

Posted by: Edwin at June 29, 2006 03:06 PM

oooh, I’m so sorry… I’m not pissed. I have high regards for Asylum, very much. I might drop by there and present myself to you Edwin. You from TP right? I have another new ‘victim’ and I’ll go proof-read it now…
