Sleepy Smeagal

Four-month-old Cockel Spaniel from Australia. He’s very smelly, loves to nibble on his toys cos he’s teething.

SIT!’, ‘PAW, PAW’ … gd boy! *any idea how we can train him to roll?* …

Dry dog food.

> Dry dog food.
What kind of cryptic comment is that, Hrant? :)

Abel, you need to teach Smeagal LONG (dog lying flat on the floor on its stomach) first. To do so, put the treat in front of his nose and bring it down to the floor.

Once he masters LONG, scratch the dog’s tummy till he lies on his side. This is DOWN. Or name it something different from LONG.

Repeat the command every time the dog is in this position.

From here, you have to move the treat close to the dog’s ear, so that it does a “flip”. That would be a successful roll-over.

We got that from the Dummies Guide to Dog Training. I can post more details of you like.

This is easier to do on something soft like a mattress, rather than a hard floor. It’s also harder for some dogs to do this trick. I think the boney ones don’t like this trick. He he.

What’s crytpic, you cat-person you? :-)
Dry dog food cuts bad breath.

Easy mate, to remove the odour from his mouth, you need listerine and to air his mouth every 6 hours with mouth to mouth airing… :)

try brushing teeth every couple of days, with dog’s toothpaste and toothbrush… you can even use the electric toothbrush cos it’s so much easier. just remember not to use the same brush for yourself ! Also, stick to dry food…

HiHi… thanks for the advise guys, except for the useless mouth to mouth advise from Smeagal’s God Pa! Bad God Pa!!

Karen, definitely gonna try Solid Gold dry food, plus those tablets that momo takes to kill KAU BI (ie: dog B.O)! As for training, that’s Abel’s department. hehehe!!

Oh, we’re bad at tooth brushing. In fact, we were so bad we sent Ren for tooth scaling a few months ago to remove some tartar. When she came back all the bad breath was gone. We were supposed to continue with the brushing routine. But she really hates it and so do we. The bad breath is coming back I think.

But I recommend annual dental appointments. Vet says that the GA that they use nowadays is very gentle, low dosage.

Mouth to mouth airing… Ren loves it!

I used to put my mouth completely over my dog’s nose and blow hard. At first I thought it was mean, but then I realized he actually enjoyed the alien sensation.

Uhm…think i’ll just try a change in diet for the time being guys :) thanks!

By the way, what dog do you have? how come his pix isn’t up for all to see … maybe can you take a pix of you blowing into his nose??

Posted by: Smeagla's Mommy at March 9, 2004 06:40 PM

Yes, send me a pix Hrant.

This is Garmir (“Red”), who is not the one that got the noseblows. That was Vorsgan (“Hunter”) back home in Beirut. He’s dead (and not from the noseblows). There was also a Yorkshire Terrier before Vorsgan, named Ourpig (“Little Friday”), but his nose was too small. Ourpig was abducted by armed gangs. Twice. The second time we couldn’t find him.

Posted by: Hrant at March 10, 2004 01:01 AM

What did the armed gangs want with a little Yorkie? Ren’s half Yorkie, we think.

Garmir’s handsome.

Posted by: Karen at March 11, 2004 12:18 AM

In most of the world a Yorkie sale is many months of earnings. The first time we got Ourpig back he had already been sold to an old lady a few blocks away - we had to pay her off to get him back.

I’ll pass along the compliment to Garmir. :-)

Garmir looks a little pudgy. :)

Posted by: jimmy at March 12, 2004 01:49 AM

Remember, he’s a Beagle - they eat like trash trucks. When I leave him at the kennel they have trouble not feeding him twice: they pour the food for each dog as they go down the aisle, but by the time they head back up the aisle Garmir is sitting there staring, with his bowl empty, so they think maybe they forgot to feed him, and err on the side of overfeeding!

But actually he’s a bit leaner now. Which is what I don’t get about diet dog food. Just give your dog LESS food, idiot! Sometimes I wish my portions were under the control of a higher power.

smeagal’s mommy,

u mean there are tablets i can take to get rid of my KAU BI? i get my bubbly bath once a week, but don’t smell so great just 4-5days after my bath…pls give details so mommy can buy.

Posted by: scotch at March 23, 2004 01:15 PM

Kau Bi tablets don’t really work. But Amy bought another tablet with some mushroom extract - she mentioned that it kinda works on pinot.

We’ve actually shaved smeagal CLEAN. So the smell has been reduced somewhat…. :) but then the mouth still abit cho cho!
