Resolutions

Let this not be the year of living digitally.

My new year’s resolution is to run a half marathon in June.
And Go to the gym at least once a week.

But it’s middle of February and I’ve only gone once. For pilates.

First Body Pump class of the year yesterday. Got jelly arms and achy breaky legs now. The funniest bit… max weight is only 2.5kg!

Went to the gym twice last week. Forgot to bring shoes on Monday and they changed the pilat�s class on Thursday to another slot, I’m not sure which, so I’ll have to try going for a run.

Go to Brett’s and click on ‘one more thing’ for a nice little surprise. You won’t regret, I promise.

Just tried running 4k. Felt like dying after just 2k. Damn. But at least I managed to squeeze in a run on Sunday after missing gym the whole week. What a good girl I am!

After missing gym whole of last week due to insanely heavy rains (which led to many floods, very rare in Singapore), I made it there again yesterday. But missed Body Pump cos I forgot that it was at 6.20pm not 6.30pm. I ran instead, on the threadmill. 2.4km and I forgot to see how long I took. Speed: 6.5km/h � 8km/h.

Ran again today: 4+ km. Good pace, good run. Cos we had yummy snacks and a new Nike bidon. Eeeeyucks.

Good week.

Forgot to bring socks on Monday � what will I think of next, but diligently went to buy some crummy socks ($5 for 3 pairs!) and trudged to the gym for Pump class. Warmed up with 7kg, 7kg on legs, 4kg on chest (and I didn’t cheat at all), 5kg on back, 4kg on triceps and 2kg on biceps. Quite an easy bicep track, will try increasing next week.

No, I haven’t been on steroids, I simply “doubled” the weights cos it looks less laughable.

Ran about 6km last night in about 35mins. No way of telling for sure. Nice new route. Some slopes etc. We kinda need to hit about 10km by end March to do 21km by June.

This is probably the wrong place to ask, but anyone has any running tips?

For someone who does 2.5km in 18mins, i’m probably not in a position to give running tips. But i know what works for me - regulated breathing and a nice route..with lots of greenery so u get the fresh green smell of grass. Makes it a hell lot easier. Get a stopwatch so you know exactly how fast u run, and take the same route a couple of times to see your time improve. That’s a real morale booster - makes you look forward to bettering your time each time.

Guess what? Forgot to bring my bottoms on gym day (Monday)! What will I think of next? Anyway, I made up for missing Pump class by running close to 7k. Took a whole hour too.

end March: 10k
end April: 15k
end May: 20k
mid June: 21k?

I’m sure this method of training is too linear. But we simply have no clue how to go about it. And I don’t really wanna think about it soo much that I stop running altogether.

Almost forgot to mention this. I went for Pump class yesterday and increased my weights all round, or as my instructor says � “uploaded”. He he.

So, 9kg for squats, 5kg for chest, 7kg for back, 4kg for triceps, 4kg for biceps (Evanescence track, cheated a lot), 5kg for lunges, etc….

Hey, you got off a much better start than I did. Have to confess that it actually took me around two years to get myself running regulary. To have someone who’s running with you also helps a lot to avoid those �wheather’s too bad � will run tomorrow� breaks. And maybe the blog also helps :). Keep up � it’s worth it!

Sat morning ran maybe 5k.

This morning ran maybe 7k.

Both were not easy. And there’s only 11 days more to 21k!

You probably haven’t heard, but we missed the registration closing date for the Singapore Marathon! Gasp!

Anyway we got over it pretty quickly and decided to run our own half-marathon. And this evening we decided to do it. I hadn’t been running for more than a week, but I was feeling game today. So off we went… 21km or as far as we can run.

After 12km, my legs started hurting really bad. And after 13.5km, I could run no more. In fact, I could hardly walk. It was time to stop. Too bad it was another 2.5km to the car. So we kinda limped, cursed and shuffled the rest of the way.

When we got home, Ren who had been home the whole day wanted to go for a walk. So we explained to her, all 50cm of her (nose to tail), that it would take 27,000 of her, placed length to length, to cover the distance we ran today.

What a nice owner!
Now I feel guilty and I’ll take Garmir for a walk. But not 27K beagle lengths, especially not with his tail extended.
