Calligraphy and Lettering

Please go have sex with yourself. That’s probably what calligraphy is all about. It makes everything elegant and lets you get away with murder.
Jill Bell (right), who has done work for Norah Jones, Madonna, and Cowboy Junkies.
Doyald Young
Louise Fili
Raphael Boguslav
Martin Wait of Balmoral, Freestyle Script and Laser fame. Such popular faces and yet he’s on virgin freespace. Speaks volumes about font piracy. He also did the Manchester United Corporate Typeface.
Jim Parkinson who has redesigned the masthead for Rolling Stone, The Wall Street Journal and Newsweek. Here’s an article on him.
Not-so-calligraphic ones:
Michael Doret
Gerald Heurta
Waters Lettering
Mark Simonson
Pelavin
as usual, the DIY links: Speedball and Aridi.
Posted by Karen at September 9, 2003 08:10 PM in typographyNice set of links (as usual), Karen. The speedball.com seems broken though. Sad.
Posted by: Stephen Coles at September 11, 2003 02:36 PMHey Stephen!!! Nice to see you here. You would probably have noticed that I got most of my links from Kyle Hildebrant’s thread on Typographic Logos over at typophile. So you’re not likely to come across anything new, but they will be categorised. :-)
The broken speedball link was my mistake. I am not very careful when posting the links because right now, there aren’t a lot of people reading. But I have corrected it. Thanks for pointing it out.

Posted by: Karen at April 10, 2004 12:01 AMAnother great calligrapher/lettering artist is Michael Harvey (check his typefaces at Fine Fonts, and also at Adobe). He designed several covers for Thimble Press, and they’re all very nice.
